NASA Admits Goof

Mars Rover found on Georgia farm

(Houston, TX) NASA engineers sheepishly admitted that they “Goofed big time” when the Mars rover, believed to be investigating the “Red Planet” was found in a plowed field 20 miles east of Dawson, Georgia.

Citing a “gross miscalculation”, Jennifer Talley, mission manager at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif. Admitted that the photos, video and soil samples collected are not nearly as important as they were thought to have been before the error was discovered.

“Our first indication of trouble occurred when the trip to mars was completed significantly ahead of schedule. The interstellar journey originally planned to take 3 to 4 years was completed in a little under a week,” said Talley. “However, when radio contact was received from the craft, NASA scientists overlooked the unexpected early landing.”

The first pictures received from the rover show what scientists believed to be high concentrations of iron in the surface of mars. Using information from the latest developments, scientists now believe they were observing a discarded hubcap.

The White House released a statement citing, “disappointment in the findings”, but reiterated President Bush’s plan for a manned space station on the moon, or perhaps somewhere in Alabama.
