One Billion Down, Billions more on the way

One Billion Mobile Ads Served in Six Months - 1/29/2007 10:24:00 AM - Wireless Week - CA6410949:

The folks at AdMob reported that over a billion mobile ads have been served to mobile devices.

It’s going to be a while before local advertisers embrace mobile advertising, but mark my words, that day will come.

See, there will be (there are already) many more people who use mobile phones than use computers.

By their very nature, mobile devices are, well, how should I say this  without sounding like an idiot?  . . . mobile.

Being mobile makes them inherently local, and local means money (see how I made that leap?).

We’re already seeing early adopters of mobile technology, but it will be a major milestone when mobile ads help local businesses do business.

A few things need to occur for this to become mainstream:

1.  The platforms need some standardization so that ads across multiple platforms can come from the same initial input.

2.  The users need to see ads as beneficial information rather than annoyances (sound like Yellow Pages?).

3.  Someone needs to make it easy for advertisers to embrace, test and track.

Let me know when you’ve got it figured out.
